WFCA Annual Summer Business Summit 28 September Kamloops (09/06/2017)

Dear BC Forestry Contractors, Consultants and Suppliers:

This is an invitation to you to attend our annual half-day workshop focusing on next year’s 2018 BC market forecast for forestry services along with a long term outlook over the next five years based on our provincial government’s commitments to forest restoration and carbon sequestration.

Western Forestry Contractors’ Association
Annual Summer Business and Market Summit
9:00 am to noon
Thursday 28 September 2017
Alpine Room, Campus Activity Centre
Thompson Rivers University
Kamloops BC

Each year we hold this business market session to get intelligence on pending demand for seedling and reforestation and consulting services prior to the annual bidding and negotiating season for silviculture and forestry services. Last year our provincial government made major commitments to carbon sequestration, reforestation and restoration work that will set market conditions for the next five years at least. Part of the workshop will look at the longer term view around future prospects and opportunities for forestry businesses in the light of these promises.

We will be hearing from presenters from the Forest Enhancement Society of BC, BC Timber Sales and the Ministry of Forests Lands Resource Operations & Rural Development. A quick overview of the program includes:

• estimates for the Forest For Tomorrow Program
• estimates for the next two years on industry demand along with longer outlooks based on available AAC
• future estimates for the FESBC program
• considerations and factors in play regarding the Forest Carbon Initiative including the possibility of Federal participation
• our new government’s emerging strategy on reforestation
• BCTS demand
• discussion on the consequences of this year’s fire season
• summary of this year’s operations and events from participants

There is no cost to register for this event and both WFCA members and non-members active in the industry are invited to attend. Please RSVP to admin@wfca.ca
