Dear Silviculture Contractors, Forestry Consultants and Seedling Producers:
Please register now for this month’s WSCA Annual Business Summit:
9:00 am to 2:00 pm
Thursday 29th September 2016
Terrace Room 2nd Floor
Campus Activities Centre
Thompson Rivers University
Kamloops, B.C.
At a time when forecasts have seen the silviculture sector possibly shrinking over the next five years, due largely to the reduction of the annual harvest, our government has recently announced an unprecedented suite of forestry commitments over the next while that may change that outlook. It has recently confirmed commitments to the Forest For Tomorrow program and the Forest Enhancement Society of BC strategy along with restoring 300,000 hectares over the next five years under its Forest Carbon Initiative and Climate Action Leadership Plan. There are some details to go along with all this. But the gist of it puts the silviculture sector on a different trajectory in terms of seedling production, reforestation and related restoration activities. The purpose of the Summit is to bring in speakers to help frame the general scope of the commitments, what they see as the prime opportunities and objectives and how they might impact silviculture businesses. Here is what the program looks like to date:
Forest Enhancement Society of BC: Speaker, Al Neil, Interim Director of Operations
Forest For Tomorrow: Speaker, Neil Hughes, Forest Establishment Leader
Forest Carbon Initiative: Speaker, Brendan Brabender, MFLNRO Competitiveness and Innovation Branch
AAC and reforestation: Speaker, TBA
Stay tuned to www.wfca.ca and this Friday’s RoundUpDate for the latest as we confirm our presenters. Registration is by donation. But please register in advance so we can have everything in place when you get there. Follow the simple registration instructions below:
