The WSCA is considering applicants for the position of chair of the Labour Market Partnership Program Silviculture Sector Human Resource Strategy Working Group. The working group will direct the three-year $550,000 program to identify and develop strategies to continue recruiting and retaining reliable silviculture sector workers. The offer closes at the end of this month.
The Western Silvicultural Contractors’ Association in an agreement with the Labour Market Partnership Program (http://www.aved.gov.bc.ca/sector-partnerships/welcome.htm) has identified the need to develop a B.C. silviculture sector human resource strategy to ensure the forestry industry can continue to recruit and retain reliable seasonal workers to plant and tend forests in the province. This undertaking will be guided by a volunteer working group comprising silviculture workers, silviculture employers, and other trustees with a share in the maintenance of a fit and capable silviculture workforce.
As the committee chair of the working group you will have experience in establishing and building organizations and strategies from the ground up. You will have a proven track record of developing collaborations, partnerships and relationships while working constructively with individuals reflecting various interests. You will be able to demonstrate a capacity to work with volunteer groups made up of stakeholders with differing levels of experience in strategic planning and operating as trustees for a cause or program. You can show that you know how to work with government partners that have an interest and oversight in the kind of undertaking proposed. Your background will include experience with designing and implementing workforce human resource strategies. You will be able to begin this position by May of 2012 and you will be available until the program’s completion, estimated to be 2015.
As the committee chair you will bring personal credibility and commitment to the project and lead by example. You will possess well-rounded leadership abilities. You will demonstrate a strong commitment to the objectives of the proposed program and you will develop an effective profile in ensuring the goals are delivered. You will act as a neutral participant and not have connections in any other role that may create a perceived conflict of interest.
