The WSCA has been awarded forestry projects worth approximately $1.7 million from both the federal and provincial governments as part of the ongoing rural economic stimulus strategy.
The Western Economic Diversification Department in an agreement with the WSCA will support over $1-million in forest fuel reduction projects adjacent to communities in the central Interior starting this spring. Another $775,000 will be directed by the WSCA through the Job Opportunities Program to treat suppressed pine stands in the Chilcotin. The WSCA, through its implementation contractor, will work with First Nations, UBCM, communities, and the Ministry of Forests and Range to create an estimated 100 jobs during the 2010 field season. Contract tendering, pre-qualification criteria, and awards will be announced later this winter and spring as projects are identified.
