The Thompson-Okanagan Interface Committee (TOIC) is pleased to announce that the 2006 Wildland Urban Interface Symposium will be held in Penticton, British Columbia from March 20-23, 2006 at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.
The theme for the 2006 Symposium will be the effect of Worldwide Climate Change on the wildland urban interface. An excellent slate of speakers will be presenting on the plenary theme as well as additional sessions on:
– Municipal Parks Fire Management
– Interface Fire Hazard Assessments
– Changes to the BC Wildfire Act
– District of Logan Lake Wildfire Protection Plan
– Fire Resistant Greenbelt Landscaping
– Mountain Pine Beetle and its relation to fire behaviour
Attendees will also be able to visit the manufacturer’s trade show on site.
Previous TOIC symposiums have been well attended by wildland and structural firefighters, emergency response officials, Provincial and Federal Agencies and elected officials. Those interested in attending the 2006 Symposium are urged to register early as available space limits registration to 300 participants.
