BCTS Considers Guidelines for Employment Standards Compliance

BC Timber Sales is considering implementing a set of guidelines outlining the agency’s role in ensuring that its silviculture contractors are complying with the province’s employment standards guidelines for silviculture.

The proposal has been developed and recommended by the BCTS Contract Advisory Committee and now awaits final executive approval. Once approved the guidelines will take effect next year.

The proposed guidelines include: BCTS project staff checking with workers for alleged violations, reporting abuses to the employment standards branch (ESB), contractual emphasis on ESA compliance, posting of regs, contractor reporting of commencement of work to the ESB and, as required by regulation, providing notice of commencement to WorksafeBC (WCB).
