According to Jack Walters, B.C.’s forest industry is dying. “The Goose which lays the Golden Eggs is on its death bed. Its owner, the Government, claims to be The Doctor but, in fact, is The Mugger”.
B.C.’s Goose must have new owners to revive it with urgently needed investment and vision. Only then will the Golden Eggs continue to flow for B.C.
Why is it dying? Royal Commissioner Chief Justice, Gordon Sloan, said it all in 1945. “The short term view motivating forest financing in the past has led us to the stage where the goose which lays the golden eggs is slowly dying of malnutrition and is largely responsible for the present unbalanced state of our forest resource. Public apathy and past Government inertia contribute to our present picture.”
