A unique study examining treeplanter attitudes, understanding and behaviour around work place safety has been released by the WSCA and the BC Safe Silviculture Project.
The report, authored by SFU Criminology masters student and treeplanter Jordan Tesluk, looks at worker self-evaluation regarding workplace risk taking and safety practices. The study shows supervisors play a critical role in shaping worker behaviour, that there is a lack of consistency across the industry regarding health and safety and that remote camps tend to have poorer safety practices. The study also revealed that the industry is become increasingly populated with younger workers.
