Faller Certification in the Works

Faller Certification Program

By next year all fallers in British Columbia will begin being certified by WCB. This massive scheme will initially allow experienced fallers to challenge the practical and theoretical examination in order to grandfather their certification. Otherwise applicants will require the full training program which will take months to reach graduation.

Falling is technically defined as cutting any tree larger than six inches in diameter measured at chest height. Spacing cutters are not technically fallers. However, snag falling or any forestry work involving working with falling-size trees will require the certification. The guidelines around implementation of this certification will appear next year as the program gets underway. Forestry contractors should see to it that their qualified cutters who might require this level of certification participate in the program.
